LEE, Byeongjoo (이병주)

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Language and Literature at the Korea Air Force Academy (since 2020).
My research focuses on modern Korean literary criticism, poetics, and digital humanities, with a particular interest in how critical discourse is formed and performed in the 1950s–60s.

Research Projects and Dissertation

I currently serve as the principal investigator (PI) of a project titled
A Textual and Discourse Analysis of Post-Liberation Poetics Using Text Mining (2023–2026),
which investigates post-liberation poetics by combining close reading with computational methods.

저는 2023년부터 2026년까지 진행 중인
「텍스트 마이닝을 이용한 해방기 시론 텍스트의 어휘 및 담론 분석」 과제의 연구책임자로서,
해방기 시론 텍스트를 데이터로 구축하고, 담론 분석을 통해 시론의 사상적·미학적 특성을 규명하고 있습니다.

My Ph.D. dissertation,
“A Study on the Formation Process and Performativity of Critical Discourse in the 1950s and 1960s” (2025),
examines how literary criticism in postwar Korea constructed modernity through the interplay of language, subject, and discourse.

박사학위논문 「1950~60년대 비평 담론의 형성 과정과 수행성 연구 – 언어·주체·담론 구조를 중심으로」에서는
전후 한국 문학비평가들이 현대성과 비평가로서의 정체성 그리고 비평 담론을 어떻게 형성했는지를 분석했습니다.

Work in Digital Humanities

I build TEI-XML–based corpora of modern Korean literary criticism and explore ways to combine close reading with computational analysis, such as keyword extraction and network analysis.
